David Lightner

Coolville - David H. Lightner, 86, Frost, died Thursday in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg.

Born in Wirt County, W.Va., he was a son of John Thomas and Cynthia Snider Lightner. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and was a former resident of the Wright Reedy area of Wirt County. Mr. Lightner was a farmer and a minister.

Surviving are his wife Gladys Tucker Lightner, a daughter, Mrs. Florence Lockhart, Elizabeth, W.Va.; a son Denver of Guysville; a step-son, Earl Lucky, Parkersburg; 14 step-children by his present marriage; two sisters, Mrs. Estle Plate, Wellsville, and Mrs. Chloe Moncrief, Chester, W. Va.; 16 grandchildren, 30 step-grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren and eight step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two wives, Minnie and Rosa Lightner, a brother and a sister.

Services will be Sunday, 2 p.m., in the Pisgah United Methodist Church, Palestine, W.Va. with the Rev. Noble Crew officiating. Burial be in the adjoining cemetery. The body will be taken to the church an hour before services. Friends may call at the White Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Friday.

David H. Lightner Dies at Age of 86

David H. Lightner, aged 86, of Frost, Ohio, died at the Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg Thursday, March 15, after a long illness.

He was born in Wirt County, son of the late Thomas and Cynthia Snider Lightner.

Widely known and well liked and respected, he was a member of the United Methodist Church, a former long-time resident of the Right Reedy section of Wirt County, and had been a farmer and a minister most of his life.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Gladys Tucker Lightner; one daughter, Mrs. Florence Lockhart, Rt. 1, Elizabeth; one son, Denver Lightner, of Guysville, O.; one step-son, Earl Lucky, of Parkersburg; 14 step-children; two sisters, Mrs. Estle Plate of Wellville, O., and Mrs. Chloe Moncrief of Chester; 16 grandchildren; 30 step-grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two wives, Minnie and Rosa Lightner; and by one brother and one sister.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Pisgah United Methodist Church in Wirt County, with the Rev. Noble Crew officiating. Burial was in the Pisgah Church Cemetery. The White Funeral Home of Coolville, O., was in charge of the arrangements.
