Merle B. Gilbert Rites November 14

Merle B. Gilbert, 62, of Slate, Wood County, a former Wirt resident for a time in his earlier life, died Tuesday, November 10, following an extended illness.

He was born in Marshall County, a son of the late Francis and Rosetta Dodd Gilbert, and was a member of the Merrill Chapel United Methodist Church.

He had worked 42 years with the O. Ames Company, Parkersburg, and retired in 1969.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edna Bailey Gilbert; a son, Robert B. Gilbert, of Slate; three sisters, Mrs. Vernon (Audra) Ingram, Elkview, W. Va., Mrs. Carl (Iva) Flinn, Parkersburg, and Mrs. Georgia Stock, Cambridge, O.; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Merle E. Gilbert, and a daughter Juanita Ruth Gilbert.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, November 14, at the Merrill Chapel Church, with the Rev. Joe Snyder officiating. Burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery. Leavitt Funeral Home of Parkersburg was in charge of the arrangements.
