'Oma' Bumgarner Dies in Florida; Rites Held Here (1969)

Death last Saturday, January 11, in Jacksonville, Fla., claimed the life of a long time well respected Elizabeth resident, Mrs. Naomi Athey Bumgarner, aged 89. She had been a resident of the St. Jude Manor Nursing Home in Jacksonville for most of the time since the death of her late husband, Harry Thorn Bumgarner, in 1966.

Born at Williamstown, W. Va., April 16, 1879, she was a daughter of the late Noah W. and Leora Bell Reed Athey. She was a member of the Methodist Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ray (Connie) Litkenhaus, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Ira (Evelyn) Connolly of Belpre, Ohio; one son, Herbert C. Bumgarner of La Canada, Calif.; one sister, Catherine Athey, and one brother, Harry Athey, both of Williamstown; and three grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.

The body was received at the McCray Funeral Home, City, where memorial funeral services were conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday of this week, with the Rev. Paul Higgins, Methodist minister of Palestine, officiating. Interment was in the Elizabeth Cemetery.

The son and daughter who reside at distant points were here for the services, along with other family members, and visited with their sister in Belpre until mid-week.
