Mrs. Essie Layfield Dies at Mansfield

Mrs. Essie D. Layfield, 70, of 313 East Marshall Avenue, Mansfield, O., died Thursday, December 25, Christmas night, in the People's Hospital there following an extended illness.

Mrs. Layfield was the former Essie Okel Dawson, and was born February 22, 1899, daughter of the late I.P. and Martha Dawson, in Elizabeth. She lived in Elizabeth until after the death of her mother in 1926. She had resided in Mansfield since 1944.

Mrs. Layfield was a retired employee of the Mansfield Tire and Rubber Co., and was a member of the Lincoln Heights Baptist Church.

Surviving are one son, Ervin Duane Layfield, with whom she made her home; three grandchildren; two brothers, Arza Dawson, of Parkersburg, and the Rev. Eddie U. Dawson, of French Creek, W.Va.; and one sister, Mrs. John D. Tennant, of Fairview, W.Va.

Funeral services were conducted at the Wappner Funeral Home in Mansfield Monday, Dec. 29, at 1 p.m. by the Rev. Wesley Arnold. Burial was in the Mansfield Memorial Park.

Her brother and sister-in-law, the Rev. Eddie Dawsons, stopped briefly in Elizabeth enroute home from attending the services and reported that his brother, Arza, has been seriously ill at his home 4209½ 9th Ave., Parkersburg, and was unable to attend the services for his sister.
