Sumpter Archer
Sumpter Archer, 57, of Sandyville, died of a heart attack at about 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 24, at his residence.
Born July 4, 1901, at Sandyville, he was a son of the late Millard and Mary Sheets Archer. He was a member of the Union Chapel Methodist Church and the Modern Woodman Lodge. He taught school in Jackson County for many years.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Ola Balderson Archer; three sons, Jack Archer, Wayne Archer and Gerald Archer, all of Sandyville; two daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Wells, Sandyville, and Miss Mary Frances Archer, Parkersburg; one brother, John Archer, Sandyville; one sister, Mrs. Lucy Palmer, Parkersburg; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Vail Funeral Home, Ripley, with the Rev. Charles Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the Dunkard Church cemetery on Limestone Ridge.
