William A. Gates

William A. Gates, aged 83, of Elizabeth, died Saturday morning, March 14, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg. He had been in failing health for the past several months.

Born August 1, 1875, in Wirt County, he was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Gates. After spending his active years away from here, he had returned to Elizabeth a few years ago, and was an especially ardent sportsman and hunter until his health forced him to give up those activities. He attended the Methodist Church.

He was married to Mary Bever, who preceded him in death, and later he was married to Maggie Mills Full, who survives.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Emma Woods of Parkersburg and Miss Grayce Victoria Gates of Cleveland, O.; and one grandson, William Woods, of East Liverpool, O.

Memorial funeral services were conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday at the Pomroy Funeral Home, City, with the Rev. Vairl C. Winter, City, officiating; and interment was at 1 p.m. Monday with services in the chapel at Riverview Cemetery, East Liverpool, O.
