Rites Yesterday For E.W. Allman
Early W. (Jake) Allman, 87, a popular and highly respected resident of Rt. 3, Elizabeth, died Sunday afternoon, October 10, in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital in Parkersburg after an extended illness.
He was born August 24, 1889, in Wood County, a son of the late Levi and Amanda Kelly Alman.
A long-time resident of the Lee Creek section of Wirt County on Parkersburg Road, he was a member of the Beulah Hill Presbyterian Church where he served as Sunday School superintendent for 15 years. He served as a Wirt County Commissioner for nine years, was a veteran of World War I, and a member of American Legion Post No. 55. Mr. Allman was a retired farmer.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Effie Deem Allman; one son, Earl W. Allman, Jr., of Rt. 3, City; one daughter, Mrs. Betty Deem, of Parkersburg; one sister, Mrs. lnez Saffles, of Akron, O.; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday) at the Beulah Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. A. K. Thomas officiating, and interment was in the church cemetery. Matheny-Mace Funeral Home of Elizabeth was in charge of the arrangements.
