Rites Saturday For S. D. Bell (1971)

Shirley D. Bell, aged 73, of Rt. 2, City, died suddenly Wednesday, March 3, in Akron, Ohio, where he had been spending the winter with his daughter, Mrs. Carl Cunningham.

He was born in Wirt County March 22, 1897, a son of the late Daniel and Charity Fluharty Bell. A retired farmer, he was a member of the Big Island Run Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Palestine Council No. 33, Junior Order of United American Mechanics.

Survivors include one son, Orley Bell, Rt. 2, City; two daughters, Mrs. Ruth Cunningham, of Akron, and Mrs. Velma Ash, of Monaca, Pa.; one brother, Clarence Bell, Rt. 2, City; and 14 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lottie Lelia Bell, and by several brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. last Saturday at the Big Island Run Baptist Church, with the Rev. Joe Hutchinson officiating, and burial was in the church cemetery. Pomroy Funeral Home, City, was in charge of the arrangements.
