Rites Held For Delbert L. Crew

Delbert Lee Crew, 78, a former well respected resident of Wirt County, of 4614 Grand Central Ave., Vienna, died in the Clarksburg Veterans Hospital Saturday, September 7.

Born in Jackson County, the son of the late Lorenza L. and Lilly Ann Brown Crew, he was a veteran of World War II, a retired farmer and merchant who owned and operated the Peewee Grocery at Peewee, Wirt County, and was a member of the Center Valley United Methodist Church. He was very active in church affairs during his long residency in this county.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Mary Virginia Vandale Crew; two sons, the Rev. Noble Crew of Pennsboro, and Denver E. (Buck) Crew II, with whom he had resided for some recent years; a daughter, Mrs. Christine Hunter, of Akron, Ohio; a brother, Harold Crew, of Akron; three half-brothers, Glen of Westerville, O., Ernest of Mineral Wells, and Lawrence of Springfield, O.; three half-sisters, Mrs. Addie Long of Ripley, Mrs. Ellen Jacks of Parkersburg, and Mrs. Zeta Casto, also of Parkersburg; and nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Center Valley United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Charles Wilkinson and the Rev. Ruby Wilkinson of Elizabeth officiating. Interment was in the Center Valley Cemetery. Leavitt Funeral Home of Parkersburg was in charge of the arrangements.
