James J. Baker (1958)

James J. Baker, 61, of Pettyville died at 6 a.m. Thursday, June 26, at Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital.

He was born June 8, 1897, at Elizabeth, a son of George M. and Minnie Bell Wilson Baker. He was formerly employed by the Motor Mart, Dils Motor Co., the S.R.C. and Board of Education, was an automotive parts man, and formerly had done some selling. He was a member of Pettyville Methodist Church, having lived in that community 17 years, and was a member of United Commercial Travelers.

Mr. Baker's mother died when he was an infant, and he was reared from the time he was three weeks of age to young manhood by an aunt, Mrs. F.E. Fint, City.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Jessie Baker; one daughter, Mrs. Murray Gregg, of Little Hocking, O.; one half-sister, Mrs. Ernest Brannon, Parkersburg; the step-mother, Mrs. Lulu Rosson, of Parkersburg; two step-sons, Walter Denham, Weston, and Harold Denham, Mineral Wells; one step-daughter, Mrs. Earl McCullen, of Pettyville; two grandchildren and six step-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mrs. Lettie Wilson Baker, and by one brother, Emmett Baker.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday from Leavitt Funeral Home, with the Rev. Howard West and the Rev. T.B. Turley officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.
