Amos B. McVey, Sr.
Amos B. McVey, Sr., 74, Rt. 2, Palestine, was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at his home Thursday evening, April 21. He had been in rather poor health for a few weeks, and his wife was ill with the flu at the home of a daughter at Peewee.
Born in Wirt County April 20, 1886, he was a son of the late Jehu and Mary Elizabeth Hill McVey. He was a member of the Pisgah Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Lonie Anderson McVey; three sons, Roy McVey, Leroy, Park McVey, at home, and A.B. McVey, Jr., Rt. 2, Palestine; five daughters, Mrs. Ladena Brown and Mrs. Dona Sprout, Parkersburg, Mrs. Kate Ratcliff, Akron, O., Mrs. Belva Miller, Cameron, and Mrs. Verna Brown, Leroy; two brothers Elias McVey, Reedy, and William McVey, Mineral Wells; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Sheppard, Vienna, and Mrs. Lydia Moncrief, Parkersburg; 23 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday from the Center Valley Methodist Church with the Rev. G.W. Prine officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Pomroy Funeral Home, City, was in charge of arrangements.
