Mrs. Gertrude Monroe Rites Held Yesterday (1972)

Funeral services for Mrs. Gertrude Monroe, 89, of Rt. 2, City, who died Sunday. November 12, in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, were conducted at 2 p.m. yesterday (Wednesday) at the Hill Grove Baptist Church.

The Rev. Vairl C. Winter of Ripley and the Rev. Dean Cameron, City, were the officiating clergymen, and interment was in the Hill Grove Church Cemetery.

Born July 22, 1883, in Wood County, she was a daughter of the late Calvin and Mary Agnes Shears Jenkins. She had resided most of her life in the Spring Creek section, and was a member of the Hill Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Naomi Merrill, Rt. 3, City; nine grandchildren, and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, A.O. (Bern) Monroe, in 1961, by one son, Bartell Monroe; one sister and one brother.

Pomroy Funeral Home, City, was in charge of the arrangements.
