Funeral services for A.O. (Bern) Monroe, 77, of Rt. 1, Creston, who died Saturday at his home, were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Hill Grove Baptist Church.

The Rev. Vairl C. Winter of Fairplain officiated and burial was in the church cemetery. Pomroy Funeral Home, City, was in charge of the arrangements.

He was born, July 14, 1884, in Wirt County, a son of the late Rev. W.S. and Anna Dye Monroe. He was a retired farmer, and had served for many years as a member of the Wirt County Democratic Executive Committee.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Gertrude Monroe; a foster daughter, Mrs. Naomi Merrill, at home; a sister, Mrs. Bessie Phillips, City; a step-sister, Mrs. Frances Monroe, Rt. 1, Creston; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Monroe was preceded in death by a son, a sister and three brothers.
