Miss Ella Merrill Services Held Sunday

Miss Ella May Merrill, 85, of Rt. 3, City (at Slate) died at the Greenlawn Nursing Home, Vienna, early Thursday morning, December 31, 1970.

She was born at Linden, W.Va., March 5, 1885, a daughter of the late Fannie Patton and J.C. Merrill, and was a member of the Beulah Memorial Presbyterian Church in Wirt County. She was a lifelong resident of the Slate vicinity.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Myrta Garretson, of Slate, and Mrs. Iva Shutts, Vienna; and five nephews.

Miss Merrill was preceded in death by six sisters.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Merrill Chapel United Methodist Church at the Wirt-Wood County line, with the Rev. Frank Turnbull of Rt. 1, Palestine officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery. Leavitt Funeral Home of Parkersburg was in charge of the arrangements.
