Rites This Afternoon For Wirt Brown, 90

Wirt Brown, aged 90, of Parkersburg, died early Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 8, in St. Joseph's Hospital following an extended illness.

Born August 16, 1878, at Leroy, Jackson County, he was a son of the late James and Mary Fleming Brown. He was a member of the Center Valley United Methodist Church for 62 years, and was a member of the Peewee Jr.O.U.A.M. Lodge.

Survivors include one son, the Rev. Snowden G. Brown of Harrisville; one daughter, Mrs. T.S. Watkins of 3508 6th Ave., South Parkersburg; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Rosa Dobson Brown, who died in 1937, and by four brothers and five sisters. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Funeral services were scheduled to be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Center Valley United Methodist Church in Wirt County, with the Rev. Harry C. Foley and the Rev. C.D. Harris officiating, and with burial to take place in the church cemetery.

Pomroy Funeral Home, City, was in charge of the arrangements.
