Heart Attack Claims Life Tues.

William Robert (Bob) Davis, 63, a life-long Wirt County teacher, and mayor of Elizabeth for several years, died Tuesday evening, February 26, in Camden-Clark Memorial Hospital, Parkersburg, following a short illness.

He had returned home Sunday evening, much improved after being a medical patient at the hospital for nine days, then became violently ill early Monday and was returned to the hospital Monday evening. His death Tuesday evening was attributed to a coronary heart attack.

Born September 2, 1899, at Windy, Wirt County, he was the youngest son of the late George and Belle Davis.

He was a Wirt County school teacher for 46 years, starting his teaching career at the age of 17 with a First Grade Certificate, and later obtaining a 96-Hour Certificate by summertime and extension work at Salem College. For almost 20 years he had been an elementary principal, currently serving as Principal of the Daniell School.

He was currently serving his 11th term as Mayor of Elizabeth. He was a member of the Bethel E.U.B. Church at Morristown, and Palestine Council No. 33, Jr.O.U.A.M.

Surviving him are his widow, Mrs. Audra Moore Davis; two daughters, Mrs. Charles A. (Eloise) Cline, City, and Mrs. Lewis (Norma) Smith, New Brighton, Penna.; six grandchildren, A/2c Charles Robert Cline, Misses Patti and Cheryl Cline, and Lois, Bill and Doug Smith; also several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday (March 1) at the McCray Funeral Home, City, with the Rev. Stanley Moore of Tanner, W. Va., officiating. Interment will be in the Elizabeth K. of P. Cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Alfred Monroe, Virgil Snider, C.D. Powell, June Munday, B.B. Sims and Melvin Channell. Named as honorary pallbearers are: O.M. Brown, Virgil Munday, Woody Wilson, Harley Lee, Foster McClung, Charles Barnette, Dick Thorn and Cain Snider.
