Melvin Earl Amos Dropped Dead Sunday

Funeral services for Melvin Earl Amos, aged 38, of Route 1, City, who dropped dead Sunday afternoon while repairing a farm tractor at his home, were conducted at Limestone Methodist Church at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Rossing Smith and the Rev. Charles Winkinson officiating. Burial was in the Limestone Cemetery. Franklin Funeral Home of Parkersburg was an charge of arrangements.

Using an electric drill at the time of his death, it was at first thought he might have been electrocuted, but an autopsy showed that he died of unknown natural causes, according to Wirt County Coroner Robert W. Coplin.

Born Dec. 1, 1918, in Wirt County, the son of James E. and Minnie Clay Amos, of Parkersburg, he was a member of the Jr.O.U.A.M. at Rockport; a veteran of World War II; and was employed by the Union Insulating Co., Parkersburg, as a maintenance man for the past six years.

He is survived by his widow, Edith Lynch Amos; three sons, Stephen, 5, who was with his father at the time he collapsed, Donald and Ronald Amos, all at home; one daughter, Sue Ellen, at home; his mother, of Parkersburg; four brothers, Kendall Amos, Wirt County Assessor, Palestine Road, Ralph Amos, Rt. 1, City, Don Amos of Bancroft, W: Va., and Roy Amos, Parkersburg; four sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Knotts, Rt. 3, City, Mrs. Lena Heatherly, Torch, O., Mrs. Thelma Ward and Mrs. Evelyn Dowler, both of Parkersburg.

He was preceded in death by his father, three sisters and two brothers.
