S. C. Amos Rites Scheduled Saturday

We received word this morning of the death of S. C. (Sam) Amos, 86, of 1036 26th St., Parkersburg, yesterday afternoon in St. Joseph's Hospital.

He was a very popular former Wirt Countian of the Limestone Hill area.

Friends may call at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg after 7 p.m. today. Services will be field there at 2 p.m. Saturday and interment will be in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

Rites Held For Samuel C. Amos

Samuel Clayton Amos, 86, of 1035 36th St., Parkersburg, died Wednesday afternoon, February 11, in St. Joseph's Hospital after an extended illness.

Born at Limestone Hill, Wirt County, on January, 11, 1884, he was a son of the late Frederick T. and Elizabeth Caplinger Amos, and was a member of the Rockport United Methodist Church. He spent most of this life in Rockport, and was a retired farmer.

He served on the Wirt County Board of Education, and was a mail carrier at Rockport. A member of the Junior O.U.A.M. Local No. 106, he was the last surviving member of the Amos family. He was always interested in civic and governmental affairs, a keen observer of events of his time, and is remembered by many for his pleasant personality and a keen sense of humor.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Leore Marie Callahan Amos; six sons, Kermit C., Clayton E., Edwin R., Homer R. and Warren J. Amos, all of Parkersburg, and Frank T. Amos, Arlington, Va.; two daughters, Mrs. Eva G. Wright and Mrs. Betty Z. Patton, both of Parkersburg; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren, and three step-great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Addie E. Archer Amos, and by one son, two brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Leavitt Funeral Home in Parkersburg, with the Rev. Norman Butler officiating, and interment was in the Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
