Zadok H. Bumgarner

Funeral services for Zadok H. Bumgarner, 89, Salt Rock, Cabell county, who died Sunday, January 14, 1962 in Huntington, were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the McCray Funeral Home.

Mr. Bumgarner, who died after a two-year illness, was a member of the Salt Rock Methodist Church. He was born May 14, 1872 in Wirt County, a son of the late Jacob and Emma Thorn Bumgarner.

Surviving are four sons, Harry Bumgarner, Winter Garden, Fla., Robert Bumgarner, Salt Lake City, Charles Bumgarner, Cleveland, and Melvin Bumgarner, Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Mrs. Addie Childers, Alexandria, Va.; two brothers, Harry T. Bumgarner, Elizabeth, and A. J. Bumgarner, Uniontown, Pa.; three step-daughters, Mrs. Gladys Shankland, Williamstown, Mrs. Pauline Mills, Lexington, Ky., and Mrs. Kathleen Eldridge, South Point, O.

Also surviving are six grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Bumgarner was preceded in death by two wives, Mary Hoffman Bumgarner, in 1917, and Bertha Hutchinson Bumgarner, in 1958; and by two sons.

The Rev. S. A. Scott officiated and burial was in the Elizabeth K. of P Cemetery.

Zadok Homer Bumgarner, born May 14, 1872. Wife Mary Walker Bumgarner, born Aug. 1, 1873, died Aug. 27, 1917. Married at Elizabeth, W. Va., August, 1894 by Rev. Frank Higger.

Children born to this union: William Homer Bumgarner, Dec. 27, 1895, deceased; Jacob Harrison Bumgarner, born Sept. 18, 1902, Married Eloise Russel, 1946; Robert Harper Bumgarner, born Nov. 9, 1904, married Mabel Kraus, 1933; Addie Thomas Bumgarner, born Jan. 30, 1908, married Hampton E. Childers, December, 1928; Charles Howard Bumgarner, born Jan. 30, 1910, married Leoria Flowers, 1946; Walter Clearmont Bumgarner, born Feb. 11, 1912, deceased; Melvin Arthur Bumgarner, born March 4, 1914.

Z. H. Bumgarner married Bertha Gill Hutchinson May 15, 1919, no children. She died Oct. 5, 1958.

He was born at Zackville, Wirt County, W. Va. Moved to Elizabeth Jan. 1, 1881. Moved to farm known as the Bumgarner Farm, fall 1882, lived there until March, 1898, then moved to Parkersburg.
