A.J. Bumgarner Dies in New York (1967)

A.J. Bumgarner, 90, a resident for many years of Uniontown, Pa., died Thursday, Sept. 7, in New York State.

He was born in the Reedy section of Wirt County, a son of the late Jacob H. and Emma Thorn Bumgarner. From Wirt County he first went to Pittsburgh, then settled in Uniontown as the head butcher at the Continental Store of Union Supply Co. He started his own business as a food store owner and poultry dealer 61 years ago. He later went into the poultry business full time 34 years ago with his daughter, Mrs. Lillian Bumgarner Longanecker, continuing several years until his retirement.

Mr. Bumgarner went to New York City six years ago to visit another daughter, Mrs. Hazel Hermann, became ill there, and since had resided in the Garden Nursing Home, Brooklyn. He passed away in Kingston N.Y., Hospital.

His wife, Margaret, died in 1939. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Longanecker, of Uniontown, Mrs. Hermann of Elmhurst, N.Y., Mrs. Catherine Pritzlaff, Palm Desert, Calif., and Mrs. Olive Foster, Arlington, Tex.; one son, Albert J. Bumgarner, Jr., Torrance, Calif.; six grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Minerd Funeral Home in Uniontown. Local relatives attending the services were Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Bumgarner, Rt. 3, City, Mrs. Helen Cheuvront, Palestine, and Mrs. Florence Cline, City. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Hampton Childers (Addie Bumgarner) of Alexandria, Va.
