An outstanding football player in high school before it became Wirt High, he liked sports of all kinds - and hunting - and was a constant booster of worthwhile activities for youth.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Cline Bumgarner; four sons, Fred, of Palestine, Tom, of Spencer, and Mike and Phil, both of Elizabeth; three daughters, Mrs. Max (Mary Frances) Park, of Belmont, Mrs. William (Sharon) Meade, of Vienna, and Annette Bumgarner, a student at Glenville State College; one brother, Roy H. Bumgarner, of Elizabeth; three sisters, Mrs. Jean Harrison and Mrs. Florence Cline, both of Elizabeth, and Mrs. Helen Cheuvront, of Palestine; and the following eight grand-children: Doug and Shelly Bumgarner, Lora and John Park, Brian and Brett Meade, Mandy and Matt Bumgarner.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Elizabeth United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Wilbert (Casey) Stinespring officiating, and interment was in the Elizabeth K. of P. Cemetery. Matheny-Pomroy Funeral Home, City, was in charge of the arrangements.
